MEET SABRINA MCKAY…

Sabrina began dancing with The DanceRoom around the age of 10, with an immediate passion for Musical Theatre. She was quickly accepted into our competitive program, where she gained attention from adjudicators for her charisma and character on stage. Sabrina studied an array of dance styles including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Musical Theatre, and Hip Hop at The DanceRoom, and successfully completed ADAPT Tap and Jazz examinations.

Sabrina was accepted into Point Park University’s BFA Musical Theatre program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which has been ranked as one of the best in the country. Sabrina continues to study Musical Theatre, and chase her very real dream of becoming a star on stage.

The DanceRoom’s Further Education Scholarship

Our students have gone on to study dance at York University, Quinte Ballet School, and Point Park University. Thanks to the generosity of Andrew & Katy McKay of Remax Wasaga Beach, a $500 annual scholarship will be awarded to a student going on to post-secondary dance education, or will be put towards workshops to enrich our students’ dance education.

DEB REDMAN TAP SCHOLARSHIP

In memory of tap teacher Deb Redman, The DanceRoom has received a donation to support The DanceRoom’s tap program. We feel these funds are best suited to support our dancers and their passion. This Tap Scholarship will provide a dancer with up to $300 towards their tap dance programming. This scholarship may be awarded annually, or as often as per program term (summer, fall, and winter).

NICOLE DOERR COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIP

Nicole Doerr and her mother Sally have been instrumental in helping us develop our competitive programming. They have brought new and progressive concepts, skills, and structures to our team, and kindly opened their doors to our students offering them opportunities to train with some of the most respected individuals in the dance industry. Nicole passed away suddenly, leaving a large hole in the dance world. We want to keep her memory alive in our studio, and honour the mark she and her mom have made on The DanceRoom.

The 2023 Nicole Doerr Scholarship, is kindly sponsored by InTown Plumbing, Laser Hair Removal @ The Cutting Edge, and Deluxe Eavestrough. These business saw the importance of Nicole’s legacy and offered to give back to our dancers in Nicole’s honour.  This scholarship is awarded to our highest scoring (averaged) part-time and full-time soloists.
